About US

Hi, I’m Jennifer Hilson — welcome to my kitchen.

I’ve been cooking for family and friends for almost 40 years, and in 2026 I’m still learning, still testing, and still falling in love with a good recipe. This blog is where I share the ones worth keeping.

Family First

I’m a wife to the best “food taster ever” a home cook could ask for, and a mom to four kids — two girls and two boys. Three are grown and out of the house now, and we still have one teenage daughter at home keeping the kitchen busy. In 2022, I got promoted to the best title yet: Mimi, when my granddaughter Emerson was born.

Cooking has always been my love language. I imagined spoiling my grandchildren with my recipes long before Emerson arrived, and I can’t wait for the day she’s old enough to stand next to me at the counter, flour on her hands, learning the same recipes my own family grew up on.

Three States, One Recipe Box

My cooking is shaped by everywhere I’ve lived. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, moved to California’s Central Coast at 23 and stayed for 23 years, then landed in South Carolina in 2018, where we’ve been ever since. Each place left its mark on how I cook — Pennsylvania Dutch comfort food, California’s fresh, produce-forward style, and Southern low-and-slow cooking all show up in my recipe box now. That mix is why you’ll find everything from casseroles to BBQ to fresh, veggie-heavy sides here.

What You’ll Find Here

My cooking leans toward comfort food, but I love a good BBQ and I’m always chasing down new recipes to try. If something earns a permanent spot in our weekly rotation, it makes it onto the blog. Over the years I’ve won several County Fair cooking contests — I haven’t entered one since the move to South Carolina, but it might be time to start again.

I started this blog after decades of cooking for the people I love, because recipes are better shared than kept in a box in a drawer. Every recipe here has been made in my own kitchen, adjusted until it’s right, and served to people who’d tell me honestly if it wasn’t.

I’d love to hear from you — if you try a recipe, have a question, or want to tell me how it turned out, reach out through the Contact page. It genuinely makes my day.
