A Calzone is a stuffed pizza pocket filled with your favorite pizza toppings. This simple recipe for a favorite Italian meal makes cooking at home a breeze.

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs prepared pizza dough if frozen needs defrosted and if refrigerated, ready to go.

  • 1 cup prepared pizza sauce

  • 1 cup pepperoni

  • 1 cup sausage

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tbsp water

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 475. Spray pan or line with parchment paper
  • Divide the dough into 2 equally sized pieces. Roll each piece into a 1/4″ thick circle.
  • Place the filling on half of each circle (pizza sauce, ricotta, pepperoni, salami and shredded mozzarella). Make sure to leave the edges clean to allow for sealing the calzone. Fold the side over the filling and crimp the edges.
  • Wisk together egg and water to make an egg wash for the top of calzone to help brown.
  • Place calzones on a baking sheet, leaving space apart. Cut a small vent on the top of each calzone. Brush the tops with Egg wash. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve with a side of sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • We like our calzones giant. You can make them half the size for a smaller portion. We can’t usually eat the whole thing but we love having them for leftovers. You can add any other toppings that your prefer on your pizza.
