The recipe calls for a loaf of Brioche bread, eggs, heavy whipping cream for a rich flavor, pure vanilla extract and some fruit, powdered sugar and syrup for toppings. French Toast is such an easy recipe and the fruit and powdered sugar just make it look fancy. You will be the breakfast hero with a side of bacon and some eggs added!!
Ingredients
8 slices of Brioche Bread, sliced
2 eggs
1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla
Sprinkle of cinnamon
Fresh berries or bananas for toppings
Powdered sugar
Syrup
Directions
- In a shallow bowl, whisk the eggs, heavy cream, vanilla and cinnamon until smooth. Set aside.
- In a heavy, non-stick skillet, place a 2 tsp of butter to melt over low heat. Make sure it coats the entire bottom of the skillet.
- When butter is just melting and bubbling, raise heat slightly to low-medium heat. Place 2 slices of bread in the egg mixture bowl. Allow to soak for 5 seconds on each side then turn until completely coated. Do not soak.
- Lift a slice out of the egg mixture and gently shake off any excess and place in the pan. Repeat until the skillet is full. Let the slices cook at a sizzle for about 2 minutes until just turning golden brown then flip.
- Continue cooking over low heat until the second side is golden brown. To test for doneness, press the center. The dent should slowly spring back. If it is not done, keep on low heat for an additional 1-2 minutes on each sign but don’t let the toast go past a golden brown color. Serve immediately with a dusting of powdered sugar and fruit. If not serving immediately, place on a pan in the oven on warm until ready to serve. You can add butter and syrup or any other toppings of your choice.
