Having grown up in Pittsburgh, PA, I thought this was how the country did steak salad. As I moved around and traveled to different cities, I figured out Pittsburgh has a unique spin on a steak salad. A spin that I liked. I made one for my husband recently and he loved it. We decided it needed to be shared. The French fries may seem weird but I am telling you, it adds so much flavor and fun to a steak salad. This is a simple salad and you add delicious steak and some crispy fries for sheer salad perfection. These salads are a staple on most Pittsburgh restaurant menus. Now that I no longer live there, I am so glad I can recreate it at home. Crisp lettuce, juicy steak, french fries, vegetables, and amazing dressing! The perfect filling dinner.

Ingredients

  • 4 6 oz Thin cut steaks

  • Steak Seasoning of your choice (I used Famous Daves)

  • 1 pound Bag of thin-cut french fries

  • 2 heads romaine lettuce (cut bite-sized and washed)

  • 1 jar pepperoncini

  • 1 red, orange or yellow pepper sliced into strips

  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1 bottle chunky blue cheese or ranch dressing, your preference

Directions

  • Cook the French fries according to the directions on the bag. I cook mine in an air fryer for extra crispiness. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Cut lettuce into bite-size pieces and wash it in a salad spinner. Set aside.
  • Season steak with any seasoning you prefer, grill or cook on stove top until done to your preferences. Slice into bite size pieces and set aside while you prepare the salad.
  • On the plate layer lettuce, pepperoncinis, peppers, steak, cheddar cheese, French fries and top with dressing of our choice.
  • You can add any of your favorite toppings and vegetables to this salad!

Notes

  • I usually use one of the dressings from the produce section like Marie’s. I find they have a more restaurant-style favor.
